Hard Rock Café
Microhotel
Spring 2021
TK Davis
This project is located next to the Hard Rock Café on the corner of Broadway and 1st and 2nd avenue. Nashville is a city well known for its music scene, and there is a lot of music history in the city such as places like the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Johnny Cash museum both located nearby. There is also a lot of music happening live as seen in the many honky tonks advertising live music up and down Broadway and the many studios and artists that call Nashville their home. As such, I’ve provided a space for these two different programs of music performance and a museum within the Hotel.
As both Hard Rock and the site on Broadway are both related to music, I thought it appropriate to let that physically drive the design and not just programmatically. The sound wave and how that looks visually and some sketches I did based off of that idea informed the envelope system of the design.
Because of the nature of a site located in downtown Nashville, I needed to maintain enough parking on site for the employees of the Hard Rock Café and as such made a parking level with an entrance on 1st Avenue. On the first level is where the stage and museum are located, as well as an expanded dining area for the Hard Rock cafe. On the east side of the building is a glass elevator that overlooks both the atrium space and the river, and there are two regular elevators next to the west side stair. Levels two and three are entirely for micro-hotel rooms, although on level two there is a green, outdoor leisure space on the north wall under a light well connected to the existing building. On level four, there is an outdoor terrace located on the roof of the existing building, otherwise it is the same as levels two and three. On level five there is a rooftop bar and green space on the south side and an enclosed bar area on the east side for when the weather isn't cooperating as well as a few additional hotel rooms.
